How To Play: CANNY Word Game

Players 2 - 4: Age 8+

The aim is to use your skill to obtain good cards to create and write down the longest word with the highest numbers of points.

The Chinese created the 52 playing cards with 4 suits 14 hundred years ago and then ordinary people created many card games with them. We have created 56 playing cards with 4 suits which are similar but, we have arranged the 26 alphabet letters on 14 cards instead of 13 cards. Our cards are logical and mathematical A = 1 the lowest card and Z = 14 the highest card, therefore most of the same games can be played. Example: Solitaire, Rummy, Snap, Speed, Pairs, Fishes and many more and most importantly a CANNY Word Game.

Standard Level:

Letters can be used more than once from the cards. (Duplicate letters)

The dealer shuffles the cards and then play begins with each player being dealt seven cards, one at a time, all face down. The remaining deck is placed aside. Players pick up the cards and hold them in their hands or place them on the table, all facing up.Each player specifies how many of their cards they wish to replace and discards them. The deck is retrieved, and each player is dealt in turn from the deck the same number of cards they discarded so that each player again has seven cards.

Advance Level:

Letters cannot be used more than once from the cards:

The dealer shuffles the cards and then play begins with each player being dealt nine cards, one at a time, all face down. The remaining deck is placed aside. Players pick up the cards and hold them in their hands, being careful to keep them concealed from the other players. Each player specifies how many of their cards they wish to replace and discards them. The deck is retrieved, and each player is dealt in turn from the deck the same number of cards they discarded so that each player again has nine cards.

For example the word CANNY: C = worth 2 points, A = worth 1 point, N = worth 8 points, N = worth 8 points and Y = worth 13 and the points tally = 32.

Rules:

  1. The players may not replace more than three cards in each round, play a maximum of six rounds.

  2. Use the letters on the cards to create and write down a long word with the highest number of points.

  3. No repeated words are allowed in the round or in the complete game.

  4. The points tally for the words should be done in turn, starting from the dealer, using the score card.

  5. A player declares his/her word to the others and if allowed the points are tallied.

  6. The dealer changes in a clockwise direction and new cards are dealt after each complete round.

  7. After all the rounds have been completed, award 70 points to one player with the longest word in the entire game, 35 points in case of a tie. Tally all the points of each player to determine the outright game winner.
